We’re starting to see progress in Wakefield but there’s a lot more still to do
From the 589 new police officers in West Yorkshire making our streets safer, to the £74 million for the NHS in Yorkshire and the North East to upgrade facilities – we’re getting on with the job. Every day, more Wakefield residents are backing Nadeem Ahmed’s plan to make our area a better, healthier and fairer place to live, work and raise a family. In 2019, people in Wakefield voted for change. And residents are saying that after decades of being ignored by Labour MPs, they’re starting to see signs of progress.
We’re attracting new businesses and new jobs by securing £44 million to invest in Wakefield town centre, which will let us renovate empty shops and make the town centre a nicer place to shop. With the government set to make even more big investment decisions, the Wakefield by-election on 23rd June will be crucial to our future. Nadeem Ahmed is not a career politician. He’s never stood for Parliament before. He lives locally in Wakefield. But above all, Nadeem Ahmed will put Wakefield people before politics and will get on with the job working for the investment we need. The last Labour MP never understood why we voted for Brexit. She tried to block it in Parliament 33 times.
And the fact is, Labour still don’t understand our concerns and priorities. Whether they’re blocking new controls on immigration or opposing tougher sentences for criminals, Labour are still out of touch. And now, Labour’s London HQ has parachuted in a Remain candidate who was employed by the last Labour MP, raising residents’ concerns of a return to the old arguments of Brexit. And all this risks the progress we’re starting to make. That’s why lots of residents are saying they’ll stick with the plan that’s working and vote for Nadeem Ahmed at the by-election. For more jobs.
